Wladimir Klitschko defended
his WBO and IBF world titles with a 10th round TKO victory over Ruslan Chagaev. Chagaevs corner pulled their man out, not
allowing him to answer the bell after the 9th round. Chagaev showed guts and determination but was thoroughly outclassed for
the entire fight. It was an excellent performance from the younger Klitschko brother. From the opening bell he bossed the
fight and was in control from start to finish. Chagaev tryed in vain to get inside to unload his shots and showed some good
lateral movement. However Klitschko was picking him off with the left jab, hooks and straight rights. The Klitschko jab was
thrown with some authority and allowed him to unload combinations. Chagaev continued to come forward but he was unable to get
to Klitschko. By round ten, Chagaev was taking a lot of punishment and didn`t look to have any alternate gameplan. His corner
had seen enough and wisely opted to pull their man out. It was a brave performance from Chagaev but Wladimir was a class
above him. Ian Darke, the pundit covering the contest with Sky Sports remarked that it was the best performance of Wladimir
Klitschkos career. With this victory, Wladimir Klitschko has been crowned the Ring Magazine champion. The heavyweight
division finally has a universally recognised champion.
After the fight, Klitschko vented his anger and frustration with
David Haye who he was originally scheduled to fight. "I was really upset that David Haye wasnt able to fight because I
wanted to punish him badly," said Klitschko. "Personally Im very upset about David Haye. Because of him I didnt fight in
March or April when he promised to deliver Stamford Bridge as a venue. But he didnt deliver. He then asked me to postpone
this fight for two weeks because of his bad back and then changed it to four weeks. I cannot take this guy seriously. Now he
has to get in line and earn his chance to fight for the world title. He has to do that with his hands and not his mouth.
We`ll get it on either way and I will knock him out in the 12th as Ive said before." Klitschko is widely expected to persue
a fight with WBA champion Nicoli Valuev. A victory against Valuev would finally capture all the belts for the Klitschko
family.
The question now arises, who is good enough to dethrone the newly crowned king? The Klitschko brothers seem to
be in a league of their own. Samuel Peter, a supposed top heavyweight was demolished by Vitali Klitschko. Ruslan Chagaev was
widely regarded as the best heavyweight outside the Klitschko family and he was simply outclassed. Does David Haye stand a
chance after just one heavyweight fight? That is a fight the public want to see. It will certainly take an excellent fighter to dethone Wladimir Klitschko.
