Klitschko Johnson Set for Showdown

Vitali Klitschko will defend his WBC heavyweight crown this Saturday night against unbeaten Kevin Johnson. The fight will take place at the PostFinance Arena in Bern, Switzerland. Johnson boasts an unbeated record of 22 victories from 23 contests with one draw. He has stopped nine of his opponents by knockout. It will be Vitali Klitschkos third defense of his title this year after already gaining stoppage victories over Chris Arreola and Juan Carlos Gomez.

Few critics are giving Johnson any hope of derailing the Klitschko express train. This is a huge step up in class for him. His punching power is also some cause for concern. With only nine knockout victories it is hard to see how he will hurt the champion. The champion will have a four and a half inch height advantage. Despite all this the challenger remains confident. Johnson, a single father from Atlanta, said he promised his 10-year-old daughter Fatimah he will come home with the title.

Timur Ibragimov who drew with Johnson in 2004 offered his opinion on the fight. "Theres only one way to beat the Klitschko brothers, to come as close as possible and to punch them straight to the chin. If you fight Wladimir and Vitali at the mid-range, its impossible to beat them. They both have very long hands, they would hit their opponents, while the latter just cant reach them. Johnson has to go forward all the time in the fight with Vitali, he has to keep up the tempo. Chris Arreola tried to fight that way but he was too straight-forward. But what can Johnson do? If he ran from me, what will he do against Vitali who is much more powerful and heavier than me? I dont know the answer to that question." Come Saturday night, we will know the answer!

Johnson has no hope at all in this fight. Klitschko will stop him in the early rounds.
