Vitali Klitschko eased to an unanimous points victory over Kevin Johnson in Berne, Switzerland. Klitschko expanded his record to 39 wins in 41 fights, 37 by knockout with two losses. For Johnson it was his first setback in 24 pro fights. The judges at ringside scored the fight 120-108 and 119-109 in Klitschko's favour. The champion stated after the fight that he was "not happy because I prepared to knock him out, but Im happy I won every round." Johnson adopted a defensive stance from the outset and the champion found it difficult to land enough telling blows. Klitschko said, "he had a very sneaky style and was very defensive (although) I had a feeling I won all 12 rounds... my style is difficult to fight, but he didnt come, he moved away and I waited for him to smash more sharp work, but always defence." Johnson could not match Klitschko work rate and will be disappointed with what was a dismal performance.
Talk switched to that of unification shortly after the bout. The champion said "it will be very interesting to fight Haye, but lets see. Im ready to fight him for a unification in the spring." David Hayes trainer Adam Booth insists he has the key to defeating Vitali Klitschko. Booth stated that Vitali "does the same thing every second of every round of every fight and it amazes me that these so-called elite heavyweights cannot figure out that there is a simple answer to that style to be able to land your punches." It will be very interesting to see that "simple" answer as Vitali is widely regarded as the best heavyweight in the world, even ahead of his brother. However Haye first has to defend his title against former champion John Ruiz in the new year. "This will be very interesting to fight Haye but let's see what next year brings" said Klitschko. "Right now Haye will be fighting John Ruiz. I wish him luck and lets see."
