Vitali Klitschko defended his WBC title with a tenth round stoppage victory over Albert Sosnowski. Klitschko extended his record to 40 wins from 42 fights with 38 knockouts. It was the third loss of Sosnowski's career. It was a brave performance from the Pole who had a large fan base cheering him on. Ultimately he came up short against the more experienced champion. "I am a bit disappointed, because I thought I had a good chance of winning this fight," said Sosnowski. "I am okay now, it was a hard punch, but I was also quite tired and I just didn't have the energy to get up." Klitschko reflected, "I was in good form, Sosnowski was younger than me, but people saw that I did well against him... he did everything to win this fight, but my experience got me through." Klitschko bossed the majority of the fight but didnt have it all his own way. Sosnowski continually came forward and pressured the champion. Klitschko was able to grind down his opponent though and a huge right hand sent Sosnowski to the canvas, ending the fight in the tenth.
Vitali will now turn his attention to his next fight. Top of the list is a unification contest with the WBA champion David Haye. Haye is the holder of the only major title outside of the Klitschko family. Vitali stated, "I would realy like to fight Haye next because I want his title. All he does is talk trash about other fighters. I would really like to get him in the ring to shut his big mouth." Other options include a fight with former champion Nicoli Valuev.
